Fresh details about
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, which follows Nathan Drake's quest for some ships that Marco Polo carelessly lost, have made their way onto the Internet. Chief among them is the apparent assertion that the game will push the PS3 nearly to the limit of its horsepower.
According to a poster over on the GameFAQs forums who got his mitts on the first preview (courtesy of
GameInformer) Naughty Dog says that it will use nearly 100% of the PS3's computing power. Evan Wells, co-president of Naughty Dog, stated that the
first game only used 30% of the PS3's power. If that's true and
Among Thieves does push 100%, SPOnG's very excited to see it, given what an
enjoyable experience the first game was. We'll will also expect it to make our tea for us given the much-vaunted but as yet unseen power of PlayStation...
Other details include the revelation of a new female compatriot, dubbed Chloe Frazer. Chloe will be voiced by Claudia Black (
Stargate,
Farscape,
Crysis). She was apparently spotted using a rocket launcher, although it's unclear whether this weapon will be usable in the game or was just part of a cinematic.
Nolan North will return to play Drake. Naughty Dog was asked whether Elena and Sully will return, but no comment was given.
On the weapons and combat front, Sixaxis tilt control has been ditched for things such as throwing grenades. Players should be able to use weapons from any stance (such as hanging from walls and what-have-you), while it will be possible to move while aiming from behind cover. It also looks like the melee combat has been fleshed out, with the phrase 'more dynamic' having popped up. A video was reportedly shown that showed Drake getting all stealthy to take out guards and escape a city.
On the technical front, load screens have apparently been eliminated.
Greg Edmonson, composer from the first game (and
Firefly), is handling the score.
