A sad day for PS3 owners as THQ has confirmed that the PlayStation 3 version of Destroy All Humans! Path of the Furon has been cancelled. This makes the game an all-new Xbox 360 exclusive.

The company stated the "development issues" as the cause for the canning in a statement to Shacknews. The decision comes late in the process as the game is due to go on sale in the USA on December 1st.

That is either really lazy development, or the game is going to be pretty poor. :(

I don't know what would draw you to make either assumption.

As late into its development as it is, laziness would likely be trumped by a desire to recoup monies already spent. As to its quality, I'm not sure what that has to do with it either...

Far more likely they ran into a wrinkle which a cost/benefit analysis told them would be too expensive to fix in a timely manner or at all.

I don't really think it is laziness on the developers part, but I do think that it's an indication that the game won't be good.

I'd assume that given THQs financial troubles (a loss of $115.3 million), they really need to have this game out for Christmas, so if there have been some technical problems on the PS3, they may just have to focus on the 360 version to make sure they have something to release.
Now, if the game was good, they would then expect it to sell enough on the PS3 to get that version released Feb/March after sorting out the issues - however if they expect the reception of the game on the 360 to be poor, then there won't really be any point in finishing the PS3 version.

Given how close the game is to it's release date, it seems a little late in the day to outright cancel the PS3 version just because of a few technical problems - it might be harder to develop on the PS3 than the 360, but it's not impossible. The investment of a couple more months, compared to the development cost already spent (which would only be the PS3 team, not much of the others), is not a lot if there could be the additional sales.

Of course, announcing the cancellation of the PS3 version could be ploy to make owners of both consoles get the 360 version rather than wait for the PS3 version (which may suddenly appear next year)

Of course, I believe the developer has also been marked for closure by THQ, but if they expect reasonable sales they would delay total closure until the PS3 version was done.

I dunno, I figure on its quality being more or less in line with its previous installments, and don't necessarily equate a game's quality with sales. Not being privy to the nature of the problem, nor knowledgeable enough to make anything of it if I did, its hard to say, but your theory about encouraging sales of the 360 version makes sense to me, though I also wouldn't discount (allowing for my ignorance) the possibility that something prevented a cost-effective PS3 version. (some problem that would have required an extensive rework of the code)

Its certainly not a triple-A title, so I can easily see it not being worth the trouble, without the game being utter crap. I found the first one mildly amusing, and an acquaintance's kids can't quit playing the second one, so I figure its at least playable.
