Midway Games major shareholder, Mr Sumner Redstone, is undergoing interesting times at the moment. According to his Viacom company's third quarter report, Rock Band (via MTV, also owned by Viacom... keep up) sold well and this "more than offset a decline in consumer products sales", the rest of the organisation is not in perfect health.
A memo sent to staff, as reported on
Gawker, however, stated, "Operating income was $689 million, a 15-percent decline versus last year’s results".
This lead to one of the best/worst pieces of corporate spin we've ever read:
"As the holiday season approaches, we also want to encourage you to spend time with your family and friends, which is even more important in these uncertain times.
In fact, instead of the traditional division and corporate holiday parties, this year we are giving everyone two additional vacation days to be used between December 22 and January 1."
We're not sure if these are paid days off or not. At least the Viacom employees will get more time to play
Rock Band on their families PS2s.
