Former Marvel Man Confirms Uncharted Movie

Plus: how Drake is different to Indiana Jones

Avi Arad, formerly of Marvel Studios, has dished up details for an upcoming movie adaptation Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, confirming its existence while he was at it.

According to Arad, whose company Arad Productions will be producing the film, the movie will open up the story that takes place prior to hitting the island as well as giving more focus to modern-day piracy than the game did.

Speaking in an interview, he also had a few words to say about comparisons between Drake and Indiana Jones. “The best thing about Drake is he's not an archeologist”, said Arad. “He's not a benevolent guy, but he's certainly not a great guy. Indiana Jones was always a good guy and he relentlessly did the right thing. Drake is a guy who's being hauled over to virtue throughout the game.

"One of my favorite scenes is when he finally finds Drake's body and he discovers he was out to hide the statue instead of steal it. Suddenly, after all of these excuses he had of being a marauder like his forefather, now he discovers he was a hero. He's required to become a better guy and he does become a better guy. The secret of El Dorado ties into that because he doesn't become a greedy guy and doesn't become a monster.”

An Uncharted movie had previously been rumoured, but no official announcement had been made.

Since leaving Marvel, Arad's been pretty busy in the world of games. He also cast aside any doubt that he's working on a Mass Effect movie, while he has films lined up based on Lost Planet and Everquest, too.
