Zack Snyder, the director of the upcoming Watchmen movie and 300, has signed up to direct three games for Electronic Arts.

Snyder will work with the publisher's LA studio for the games. EA will hold the rights to the games, with the director's Cruel & Unusual Films company getting first dibs on making them into movies.

The deal is similar to the one that EA signed with Steven Spielberg back in 2005. That deal has so far produced Boom Blox, which was critically well-received but failed to set the world on fire at retail.

Snyder has already had a part to play in Warner Bros' upcoming episodic Watchmen game. Speaking at this year's San Diego Comic-con, Snyder said, "They sent me a script for it, and you know, it's one of those things where you get a script for it, and you're like, ‘Okay, not to be mean, but this is the dorkiest thing that I've ever seen in my life.' It had nothing to do with Watchmen, and it wasn't cool at all. So we tried to rewrite it and tried to do something good, and those guys were really open to make it more ‘Watchmeny,' whatever that even means."

Speaking about the connection between films and games, Snyder went on, "There is a dialogue that needs to be established between filmmakers and video games so that it's not an afterthought. It's not marketing. A video game should not be marketing. To me it's not."

No details on what Snyder will produce for EA have been dished up yet.

"Zack Snyder has a fresh and bold creative style that resonates with our core audience", uttered EA president Frank Gibeau in a statement. Cheers, Frank.
