Valve has said that a remake of the original
Half-Life for console gamers who have come late to the party is a possibility.
Asked if he would like to re-visit the game, Valve co-founder Gabe Newell said, “Yes, I think so. I think, in general, we like going back -- whether it's doing graphical upgrades or more aggressively going into
Half-Life 1, [this] is something we always like to do -- it's fun for us. And there's a lot of value still in the content that we created and the stories and the characters that are there."
Don't expect an announcement in the immediate future, however. Newell went on, “With us, there's always this question of bandwidth. We're a 150-person company. We've got a lot of stuff that we're already working on. Whether it's Steam or
Team Fortress 2 or
Left 4 Dead -- it's keeping us pretty busy already.”
It would seem that
Half Life 2: Episode 3 is also taking up a bit of Valve's time, too. Asked how it's coming along, Newell said, “I'm not supposed to talk about
Episode 3, according to Doug (Lombardi, marketing director at Valve). It's going well. I mean, it's going to be the best of the three, by far. It's going to be the most innovative in terms of gameplay. [Motioning to Lombardi] He's going to get me if I say anything more.”
Good to know!
