Valve Confirms No PS3 Support for Team Fortress 2

Xbox 360 to get updates by end of year

Valve has confirmed that no further support will be provided for the PS3 version of Team Fortress 2, or any other part of The Orange Box.

Asked if, like the Xbox 360, the PS3 will get all the existing (free for PC) Team Fortress 2 updates bundled together, Valve co-founder Gabe Newell said, "No". The developer's marketing director, Doug Lombardi, followed up with, “We don't have PlayStation developers, so....”

Pressed on whether EA would help out on that front, Newell concluded, “No. They're not doing ongoing development on The Orange Box for the PS3.”

Previously, Valve had been uncertain on the possibility of releasing updates for the PS3 version of Team Fortress 2.

Similarly, Newell was unclear on the possibility of Left 4 Dead hitting the PS3. “We don't have the bandwidth”, he said. “For The Orange Box, EA did the PS3 version. They're interested in getting a PS3 version done. We just have to figure out where the resources can come from.”

Continuing on Valve's involvement with the PS3, Newell said, “I think we need to do a good job with supporting the PS3 with the Source engine. Our engine licensees would like us to do it... So I think that we'll, over time, be directly more and more supporting the PS3 as our bandwidth allows us to.”

There's good news for 360 owners, however. Speaking of the aforementioned TF2 update, Doug Lombardi said, “My hunch is that it's going to be everything that's out as of now, including the Heavy -- and that'll be out before the end of the year.” It will most likely cost $9.95 (€6.80 or £5.40).
