The Xbox 360 has sold out in Japan. That's right, sold out.
Sold out! This comes directly from Microsoft, which also says it will be September before more units are shipped.
The 360 famously sells poorly in Japan during your average month. As SPOnG
told you yesterday, however, the release of
Tales of Vesperia helped push sales of Microsoft's console to 28,116 last week, nearly three times those of the PS3.
The full statement and 'apology' from Microsoft can be found below. Strangely, however, no actual numbers appear. We are also trying to discover what logistics and inventory tracking software the big MS used this time around.
"To all customers,
"We truly thank you for all your patronage in the past.
"Currently, the Xbox 360 is sold out, and retailers are unable to restock their supply. This is a result of our own sales targets being exceeded by the actual customer sales. We deeply apologize for this inconvenience to our customers, retailers and business partners.
"Here at Microsoft, we are moving forward quickly with console production, and plan to ship the standard Xbox 360 model out this September. Furthermore, we will sequentially be shipping out the Elite and the Arcade models. We ask that you please patiently wait until the console is shipped.
"We truly thank you for your patronage hereafter.
