Rockstar has confirmed that
Grand Theft Auto IV will be coming to the PC.
This isn't to say that PC gamers won't have a bit of a wait because the port of the best-seller won't be out until November 21st in Europe, while our cousins over in Canada and countries below it (excluding Alaska) will get it three days earlier on the 18th.
Nothing has been said directly about operating systems, but SPOnG is assuming that "on PC" means "on Windows PC", and in order to sell any that means "on XP as well as Vista". We've contacted Rockstar to see if Linux or straight-out Mac will get a look in.
A PC version of the game has been rumoured previously, with a cover for the Malaysian edition of
PC Gamer sporting news of the port. At the time, Rockstar called it "rumour and speculation".
Given that just about every other
GTA game ever found its way onto the PC, however, it was always pretty likely that this would happen.
Sam Houser, co-founder of Rockstar, is also being quoted as saying our favourite piece of CorproBS - so you can really bet your week's beer money that a PR person said this and not Sam at all. Here goes anyway... "We are very excited to be releasing the PC version of
Grand Theft Auto IV."
That must be about the 521st "We are very excited" quote this year... anyway, Sam or the PR person continues, "The whole team is dedicated to bringing an amazing gaming experience to the PC. The game looks and plays beautifully on PC and we can't wait for people to play it." Anyone else disappointed that we can't even get an interesting quote out of the founder of gaming's most rock 'n' roll company in an announcement?
