Japanese role-playing giant Squaresoft and Disney released the first official details of their forthcoming PlayStation 2 RPG at a crowded E3 yesterday.

The game, imaginatively codenamed Disney RPG, was first announced early last year at the PlayStation Festival, but little has been disclosed until now. Now officially titled Kingdom Hearts, the game has been in development for at least 18 months and is looking great. Kingdom Hearts is being developed in full 3D and will feature many classic Disney characters, as well as new characters created by Square.

The game will be played across nine Disney themed worlds, based upon some of the company’s most famous movies, including Tarzan, Aladdin and The Little Mermaid.

A Japanese date has not yet been set, but a fall 2002 release is intended in the United States and Europe.
