In the aftermath of the murders in Tokyo's Akihabara district this week, Konami in Japan has cancelled three promotional events for the launch of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots - one of which was going to be in the same district.

According to Time, quoting an anonymous source,"Konami cancelled the events with the 'safety of participants in mind' though similar events in the U.S. were to proceed as planned".

Why exactly there should be safety concerns is unclear. However, given that no connection has been made between any video games directly, Konami in Japan has certainly done the decent thing in terms of respecting the grief of the victims' families.

Konami, you should be holding this event.

Why you ask? Because Konami hardly make any games these days. They have become pretty weak and dumb. Only a fool would let Guitar Hero and Rockband steal thunder they forged.

Its all very well singing and dancing about the greatness of MGS4, but where are the other games, Konami? That's right, you'd have liitle else to show.

Target Terror for Wii? WTF?? More like Lame Game Terror. I've seen more encouraging efforts on XNA/PSN.

You guys at Konami, really need to get your act together. After MGS4, give MGS a break and get to making some damn new IP for home consoles, like everyone else. Relying on an exclusive title, when you are already making less stuff isn't smart.

Hey, How about another Kensei? On second thoughts, dont. Just take a leaf from Capcom's book and make more new stuff.

You are being left behind, fast.

Not to burst your bubble and i do agree about the GH and Rockband part but,

errr. PES, Silent Hill Origins, Lost In Blue, Bomberman Land Wii (Touch 2 for DS) are all hugh selling titles, and plenty of new IP`s like Hellboy etc.

and i didnt include MGS just announced for PSP + the sales of MGS4 will quite possibly compete with any other AAA title this year.

Yeah Hari, but be serious. I'm quite aware of Konami's DS games, owning one, it seems this is where they roll these days (kudos to Castlevania, Contra etc, that's fine, not disputing them).

What I see as the problem is Konami are relying on PES and MGS to survive (or perhaps it feels that way. I'm quite surprised that they have little else to offer in the very profitable home console space. I'd like to know why this is, because it feels like they have conceded their creative balls to a chopping block.

Most of Konami's games are old licenses. MGS is near the end of its service. PES is cool. Good god, 360 and PS3 are crying blood for games, and they barely get anything from Konami.

Guess all I'm saying is, I'd like to see some creativity from Konami (something to match to match the creative zeal say the likes of Capcom have). So far, even after MGS4, I'm just not seeing it.
