Yet more rumour and speculation has emerged surrounding the
Metal Gear franchise. This time, it has been suggested that the original
Metal Gear Solid will make its way onto Xbox Live.
The rumour comes via Ripten, which claims that
MGS was spotted by a contact on PartnerNet, the developers-only network used to beta test downloadable 360 games.
Should the rumour prove true, it won't be
that surprising in terms of platform politics. While PlayStation is the traditional home of the
Metal Gear franchise, it has made its way onto several other platforms, including the Xbox with
MGS2 and
3.
Of course, it's highly questionable that
MGS could fit within the 350MB size
now allowed for Xbox Live Arcade games. The PlayStation original came on two CDs. With each disc capable of holding up to 700MB, either Microsoft would have to make a special concession on the file size, or something approaching magic would have to be used to squeeze the game found on those already-compressed PlayStation CDs.
For now, best take this with a very liberal amount of mineral seasoning...
