Two games in on, that's not possible.

Virgin Interactive announces Maelstrom, a cross-over first-person shooter and space combat game for the PlayStation 2. In this game you join one of two space pirate factions who are battling for territory, taking control of a fully armed space fighter to ruthlessly attack massive convoys. If you manage to successfully breach the defences of one of the ships you are then able to infiltrate on foot and take on the ground forces. You are putting your life in danger, but if you are successful, riches beyond your wildest dreams will be your reward.

Jim Murray, a renowned Judge Dredd artist, designed the characters for the game, and that means that the visuals will be stylish. The final build of the game will have 20 levels in the single-player mode and 5 multi-player specific maps. Players will have direct control of their ‘clan’ and be responsible for giving orders and devising tactics. New pirates will join your party as your notoriety increases. These new associates will bring new abilities such as explosives expertise or hacking skills.

Virgin has pencilled in a Christmas 2001 release for Maelstrom on PS2, with the Xbox version following early in 2002. The Xbox incarnation is expected to deliver improved graphics and on-line multi-player battles.
