Oldies can be fun as we sometimes tell the Evil Editor. Mostly they are crusty, dribblesome and annoying though. So let's hope that Activision's latest roll-out of the
Pitfall series is the former.
Pitfall: The Big Adventure is coming to Nintendo's Wii via the Activision-owned studio Edge of Reality of
Pitfall: The Lost Expedition and more recently
The Incredible Hulk lineage.
Dave Oxford of Activision Publishing thinks that "
Pitfall is one of the most legendary franchises in the history of videogames" apparently this historical immensitude means that he, "look(s) forward to releasing a new version exclusively for Wii".
In fact, he doesn't stop there in his ebullience (and disregard for actual history), "What could be more fun than using the Wii Remote to swing on a vine over blood thirsty crocodiles as retro-cool Pitfall Harry?" he asks.
Well, Dave... can we recommend taking some advice from PJ O'Rourke's
Republican Party Reptile?
Now the detail, "Set in the Peruvian jungle,
Pitfall: The Big Adventure will feature over 60 levels spanning rainforests, caves and glacial mountains."
"The title’s game mechanics have been developed specifically to take advantage of the Wii’s motion-sensing controls."
Well... yes, of course they have. How about some more detail?
“Wii is a natural and perfect fit for a
Pitfall game...", said Edge of Reality president Binu Philip before we got bored. We await some more information before the game is released in the Autumn, or the pitFALL!
