Sony has stated that the PlayStation 3 has now outsold the Xbox 360 in Europe.
Speaking at PlayStation Day 2008 down in London, David Reeves, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe's president, said, "We have sold over 5m PS3s throughout Europe. We are particularly proud of this as it has been achieved in a SIMILAR time frame to PS2, which retailed if you remember at a significantly lower price.
"We have been consistently outselling our closest competitor since October 2007.
"Even with the latest (Xbox 360) price drop I am delighted to be able to announce today that we have sold more PS3s throughout Europe than Xbox 360 even though they launched 16 months before PS3."
That's not bad going, we're sure you will agree. Alas, hard figures were not provided, but outselling the Xbox 360 in half the time is no mean feat.
Reeves did not draw a comparison between the PS3 and Wii in Europe.
Reeves also hammered home the message that the PS3 is all about the games. "Kaz has clearly indicated that PS3 is first and foremost a games machine - and it is!" he exclaimed. You can catch a rundown of just what Kaz had to say here.

Take that, Microsoft cnuts!
I really did want this to be a better post than something along the lines of "I told you so" but I do so love being right.
This is why you always have to wait and see how things pan out in the long run, rather than coming out with stupid lines such as how Microsoft was outselling Sony at day 1, which of course it was always going to do.
GTA IV is going to compound the situation. The brand is synonymous with Playstation in the eyes of the massmarket.

If the PS3 is a games console foremost where are all the games and exclusives? Where are the games that are supposed to be the awesomeness on blu-ray? Why is GTA 4 selling more on the 360? Why do 99% of games on the 360 look better than the PS3 version? Why? Why? Why? Why????
For f**ks sake, people are buying the PS3's most likely since they can now afford to upgrade from a PS2 and or most likely many are buying more than 1 machine like the 360 and PS3 its good to have both I think you will agree.
All in all the Xbox 360 in my opinion is still the best choice in gaming because it has tons of games it has the best online service it has great exclusives as well.
Make your own choices but I make mine based on what I prefer and thats the 360 and its controller and its games.

It was almost inevitable that the PS3 would start to outsell the 360, for brand-loyalty reasons if nothing else. Plus it's been apparent for about a year that 360 sales have slowed right down, as sales of a mature product will do.
None of that gives anybody the right to point and laugh. Why must people associate their own virility with a box of electronics and defend them both with equal vigour?
