The next person who stands up and says, "Video games, they're for kids, right?" will be asked to leave the planet. It is now official, video games such as
Guitar Hero and
Rock Band are the Noughties' equivalent of Trivial Pursuit - dinner party fun.
Why do we say that this is 'official'? Simple, the most corporate of all corporate rock bastards, Metallica, have decided that video games are 'cool'. Speaking to
Rolling Stone magazine, crazy man of slippers, drummer Lars Ulrich said, "Our kids love playing
Guitar Hero and
Rock Band. It's awesome."
The fact that Metallica might be releasing its next single via the power of
Rock Band wouldn't have a thing to do with it.
Apparently, video games are positive because they enable, "your kids talk to you about Deep Purple and Black Sabbath and Soundgarden".
Do what? It's cool to have your kids talk to you about bands who stopped having hits before you were born lets alone before they were born? Sounds more like metal (sic) retardation to us.
That aside, at least with upstanding corporate citizens such as Metallica supporting video games, we've all got a safe and conservative future.
