Midway and Epic have confirmed that Unreal Tournament 3 will ship for the Xbox 360 this summer.

The Xbox version will feature new content and modes. On offer will be two new characters, five new maps and the option to play against your mates locally in split-screen mode.

"We're very excited to be bringing Unreal Tournament 3 to Xbox 360", uttered Mark Rein, VP of Epic Games. "Whether playing against our fantastic AI 'bots' or playing online with friends over Xbox Live, UT3 is a great fast-paced game with spectacular environments, weaponry and vehicles. Its comprehensive multiplayer offerings are truly going to shine on Xbox Live."

Midway got in on the chirpy commenting. "We are extremely happy to expect to put Unreal Tournament 3 in the hands of Xbox 360 owners this summer", offered Mona Hamilton, VP of marketing, Midway Home Entertainment. "The PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system and PC versions have shipped over a million units worldwide thus far, and soon Xbox 360 owners will be able to experience FPS action at its best with Unreal Tournament 3, complete with new characters, new maps and split screen capability."

The game shipped for the PC and PlayStation 3 in November and February respectively.

You can read more about Unreal Tournament 3 on SPOnG's dedicated game page. First, however, you should probably take a look at these screens Midway was good enough to send our way.

I could do with less, to be honest.

Not that UT3, etc, is bad, but it's about time the FPS genre gets over itself. They think they're so cool, but they're not. It's all a glorified task of pointing and clicking on a screen.

Every game these days is yet another FPS, a man running around with a gun. Oh, wait - the graphics are slightly shinier. I wouldn't mind, but what are they aspiring to?

Anyway, that's just what mood I'm in after the Wii being called a virus!
