Nintendo has dislodged EA Canada from the top of the annual UK trade magazine '
Develop's list of 100 top-earning video games studios. This is the first time in three years that the North American studio has failed occupied the top spot.
The list ranks the world's game development studios according to game sales at UK retail.
Nintendo has reached its dominant position in the
Develop 100 following a 200% year-on-year increase in revenue. Nintendo games made an impressive £129.83m in 2007, compared to £68.78m made by games from EA Canada.
Given that Nintendo's development operation only gets one listing and EA's is scattered around the world, however, SPOnG opted to do a spot of maths. If you add up the revenue generated by the 11 EA studios sat in the Develop 100 you get a total of £236.15, over £100m more than Nintendo. This list of EA studios excludes BioWare, which is was only added to the EA stable
this year); and also Pandemic, which didn't make the Top 100.
European studios are fairly well represented. They take up 36 places on the list, having generated a total of £284m between them. That compares to £221m generated by the 12 Canadian studios on the list - bear in mind that for Canada, that's a 19% growth year-on-year.
