The impending threat of a takeover of Take Two doesn't seem to have slowed Rockstar, one of its publishing labels, a jot. The company has brought another studio under its umbrella in the form of Mad Doc Software.
Massachusetts-based Mad Doc has been renamed Rockstar New England. Try going to the company's website and you'll find yourself shunted to a Rockstar web page advertising the Wii and Xbox 360 versions of
Bully, which the company recently worked on.
Comments from Sam Houser, founder of Rockstar Games, put Mad Doc's technology firmly at the forefront of the deal. The developer is known for its focus on AI and networking technology. "The team at Mad Doc Software is extremely talented", he said. "Bringing them within the Rockstar Games family will enhance our core technology and further support our commitment to creating progressive and innovative gaming experiences."
"To be a part of Rockstar Games is an amazing opportunity for everyone here", said Dr. Ian Lane Davis, founder of Mad Doc. "We're eager to bring our expertise to bear in the character-driven, open-world stories that make Rockstar Games titles so uniquely compelling."
This comes with the shadow of an EA takeover ever looming. Rockstar's parent company, Take Two, recently
advised its shareholders to reject EA's offer of $26 (£13.08) per share, but left room for a possible future "business collaboration".
