Following on from Nintendo’s decision to opt out of this year’s ECTS (European Computer Trade Show) Sony Computer Entertainment has confirmed that it too will be running its own event instead.
"This decision is not a budgetary one,” said David Wilson, head of public relations at SCE Europe. “We felt that this approach would be better one; E3 is our major trade showing anyway, and a consumer show offers better value for retail and media as well."
Sony confirmed that the new show would be in place of the company having any presence at ECTS. SCEE also stated that no date or location was confirmed at this point though it is widely expected to be around the same time as ECTS, probably clashing with the Nintendo event in the days before or following on in the days after.
Ray McGuire, SCE UK managing director said "We actually have more money to spend this year, but the most important thing at this stage is to reach consumers, the people actually buying and playing the games."
