Gran Turismo 5 Prologue: 71 Cars Confirmed
Sony has just sent word of the 71 vehicle line-up for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. Included in the list (detailed in alphabetical order at the bottom of this story) are Ferraris, Alfas, Lotusessess (our word), Minis and TVRs.

According to SCEE the game which is due out on Blu-ray and download for PS3 (with its Online racing, new physics engine and "even" a TV channel) on March 28th will feature:

* 16-player online play.

* Tracks including: Eiger Nordwand, Daytona International Speedway, the London City Track, Fuji Speedway, Suzuka and the High Speed Ring.

* Access to Gran Turismo TV : a world of great motoring TV programming online including the BBCs Top Gear.

* In-game museum featuring the history and heritage of the top car manufacturers.

* My Garage - a personalised homepage feature with calendar, clock and map & weather of major race circuits worldwide.

* Quick Tune facility allows (enables, damn it!) you to adjust power, tyres, suspension and more
All in stunning High Definition at 1080p.

And us European sons get:

* Drift Mode – The player’s drifting technique is measured based on drift angles, racing lines, and speeds within evaluation zones located at various turns on the course.

*In Depth Car Tuning – Players have the ability to adjust the vehicle’s performance, including power, tyres, suspension and the ability for quick tuning whilst racing.

*Two-player Split Screen Racing – Allows players to race head-to-head offline.
New Race Events – Online racing fans can join in on a new set of scheduled events and time trials.

Why the Japanese, Australians, Laotians and Americans don't is open to rumour and speculation. We were simply old that these features are, "Additional Features for Europe".

Some in the SPOnG underwater castle hope to the gods that they get Clarkson and his chuntering chums though. Pip, pip!

Oooohh... a Subaru Impreza Sedan WRX STI spec C Type RA '05.... no, sorry, I'm kidding, I have no idea what the "...spec C Type RA" means :-) I can however take a stab that the rest of those letters make it a World Rally sports car made in 2005?

Depending on the price, this might be my 4th game purchased for the PS3 - it needs to be sweet with so few tracks and the later promise of the eventual full product but it's a definite maybe.

It's also very pleasing to see this come loaded with split screen. I'm a little concerned that too many modern racers are dumping the split-screen option - Motorstorm, DIRT, Full Auto, I'm looking at you!

Time to go find a price for this then....

I've heard that Motorstorm2 is likely to have split-screen multi-player, possibly up to four-way.

I heard the same, fingers crossed we get it. Strangely, I got all worked up and annoyed when I discovered PG3 didn't have split screen, but they brought it back for PGR4 and, as far as I know, sales numbers for the 360 sequel fell significantly - am I the only one who still sees split screen gaming as a plus?

I find it so much more fun to have my mates in the same room when racing than the often hit-and-miss experience of setting it up online.

Some of the most fun I've had multi-player gaming were drunken split-screen Gran Turismo races.

OTOH Warhawk online is some of the other "most fun" experiences in multi-player gaming I've had.

Guess I'm conflicted, or "split". :-)

PGR3 did have split screen multiplayer, but it was really hard to get into. You had to setup another account on your 360 and then sign the second joypad in as that account, then setup a local multiplayer game and then jump in on the second joypad by pressing start! I think... or something like that anyway. Not the most intuitive thing...

I always find it hard playing split screen as your view is so limited. Not so bad now that I have a HD Projector ;)

PG3 had split screen? Really? Wow, I honestly never came across it and that is a suprise as I don't think of myself as a noob :-)

I found the split screen in PGR4 but that is a pain to get to as well, if you try and just select the option, you're told that a second profile needs to be logged in and then you have to mess around sorting that - sounds similar to what you've said about PGR3.

Split screen is annoying for the lack of screen space I agree but modern TVs are helping and more detailed and higher console resolutions make life easier. It was a genuine pleasure to co-op complete Halo and Halo 2 with a mate in the same room and MP Burnout and Burnout 2 on my Gamecube (at the time) were gaming heaven.

I've played Motorstorm a little online but it just feels a little sterile somehow, kind of like I'm playing on my own with a bunch of AI's who seem to have cars that are 7x faster than me and who, on occasion, can teleport from one bit of the track to another (I'm thinking this effect is something to do with lag).

Split screen should always be included in my opinion - anyone here play Contra 3 on the SNES with mutiple people - oh wow, was that great or what?

Splitscreen is an abomination against the FSM, and if it is indeed on the way out I consider it a mitzvah.

If thou hast any hope of attaining the stripper factories and beer volcanoes, thou shalt shun it.

SHUN IT I SAY!

Ra-men.
