Sonic the Hedgehog in Democracy Sensation

Okay, it's not a sensation... just a vote

Sonic the Hedgehog in Democracy Sensation
We like a bit of democracy here at SPOnG - in fact, we like it so much that we often have occasion to enforce it on others - but that's another story. So, when SEGA's PR people approached us (and, let's be fair, the rest of the games media) with the following request for some free hits to their website using the hook of a free vote, we thought, "Why not?"

The plan is that you - the gamer - get the chance to vote on the name of a new race of alien beings that will be featured in SEGA and Bioware's Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood on the Nintendo DS this autumn.

It looks to us like either a darned good idea - many gamers made happy by the name they voted for being chosen; or like a darned bad idea as more gamers are deeply, deeply hurt by their choice being overlooked. But that's how democracy works - unless SEGA is using some form of proportional representation, in which case things could get horribly confused.

Voting will close 14th March, 2008, and the winning name will be announced on 15th March, 2008.

Bye then...

Oh, you thought we'd forgotten to give you the address to vote didn't you? We didn't. We'd vote for 'The Darknood' - because it sounds like Nude with some darkness.

Yep, same here, link not working. But I'm not sure it's Spong's fault - the whole sonic-city.com site appears to be missing, and that is the link used by Sega's own blog here:

It's been up and down all day - like an (insert seaside postcard analogy here). For some reason, I blame Svend.

I often do though.

Cheers

That's right, blame the Dane. If only I wasn't so naturally laid back I'd dispute that claim. Now where's my Carlsberg?

You can blame me for the potential name 'Psykore', though. I chipped in that one.

I agree that Bioware will likely do a good job with Sonic but I don't think Sega "killed" Sonic. Sure, he has had his fair share of mis-steps but the Sonic IP is still very strong and, as seen in games charts the world over right now, very very viable.

Sonic Rush was fantastic so clearly the character can still hold his own and my wife lives Sonic & Mario at the Olympics on her DS so his jump to a new genre has been worthwhile, even though it has taken him away from his superfast platforming roots.

Did I miss something though SS4, we should all know why.... but WHY?

Oh, and I corrected your obvious typo in the quote, I'm sure you meant annoyed :-)

I think he was referring to the equal abilities eg, Mazza beating Sonic in a foot race.

Ah, I see. I guess it is difficult to believe that a fat plumber could run as fast (or faster) than a hedgehog.... actually, erm... nope, I've got nothing ;-P
