Microsoft, Nvidia and Intel are getting together to form a consortium, named the PC Gaming Alliance, aimed at championing the PC, according to the latest rumour to do the rounds.
The details come from
The Mercury News' Dean Takahashi, who claims that the three are preparing an announcement ahead of next week's Game Developer's Conference in San Francisco.
The article states that the consortium will be made up by the aforementioned big three named, along with other industry players such as AMD. Takahashi reports, "Part of the pitch is that the industry group will keep the PC competitive with game consoles to attract key game developers."
If the rumour proves true, it could be a significant boon to PC gaming.
Speaking to SPOnG, Valve's director of marketing, Doug Lombardi made the point that, "Somebody needs to champion the PC in a big way... nobody's really been doing that in the last 10, 15 years for the PC. Nobody's been sending the PR people out to all the reporters, saying, 'Tell them the C story, tell them how much money
WoW's making, talk about what Steam's doing, tell them about the PopCap Games casual story.'"
