GDC is hotting up and no mistake. Now we have news of a Square Enix, Final Fantasy-based session entitled: "WiiWare Project Lifecycle: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, The Little King".
Fumiaki Shiraishi (Square-Enix) and Toshiro Tsuchida (Producer, Square-Enix) will be presenting an open session which, we're informed, will present, "... an in-depth look at the development process of Square-Enix's WiiWare launch title, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, The Little King. The development team's motivations to create WiiWare game will be explained, as well as difficult decisions made when faced with the task of creating a contemporary game within a 40MB memory limitation."
Fantastic news for Wii owners... But hold on, we thought that Nintendo of America's top man, Reggie Fils Aime had told us that Wiiware enables, "Independent developers armed with small budgets and big ideas will be able to get their original games into the marketplace to see if we can find the next smash hit".
Square Enix? Small budget? Independent? Call us strangely naive, but we thought that Square was one of the biggest and most successful publishers and developers in the known universe?
Oh well, if you're a small developer, we'd advise you to use your budget to get over to GDC in San Fransisco between February 18th and 22nd to learn from Tsuchida-san and Shiraishi-san. You might have to hang around there for a while though as no date has been allocated to the session.
