Virtual Console: Tropical in January?

Well... yes

Posted by Staff
This week Nintendo tops up the Wii's shopping channel with a visit to the tropics and the repelling of an alien invasion.

Star Tropics follows the time-honoured tradition of taking an American sports hero and dumping them in a situation where they have to do something... heroic. The game, originally released on the NES in 1992, follows Mike Jones, a star pitcher (we think that means 'bowler' rather than 'large jug') from Seattle, as he heads off to visit his archaeologist uncle in a tropical paradise. When he arrives though, shock! horror! his uncle is missing! Mike must go about finding him, both on foot and in his uncle's submarine, in a 2D top-down manner. It can be yours for 500 Wii Points.

Also on offer is Alien Storm, a side-scrolling action adventure that sees (the clues kind of in the title) aliens invade Earth (shape-shifters, no less!) and only the Alien Busters to stand in their way. Taking on the role of the reassuringly hard-named Karen, Garth or Scooter, players must pick up their unique arsenal and shoot their way through six levels for the sake of all mankind. This Mega Drive title will set you back 800 Wii Points.

We're now up to 182 titles on the Wii's Virtual Console service.

Out of three people named Karen, Garth and Scooter, I would only trust one of them with my life in an alien invasion. Scooter? I mean, come on...

when they say star pitcher, they mean he pitches for a baseball team
