It looks like classic arcade zombie killing, best-mate partnering, end of the pier scorcher, House of the Dead 2
are heading to the Wii; Zapper compatibility and all, under the moniker The House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return
Spring next year is when we can expect to see The House of the Dead 2&3 Return
, should the rumour pan out.
A poster on the NeoGAF forum has put up text that had allegedly been posted found on US games rental service GameFly detailing the game. We say allegedly, because at the time of press GameFly appears to be dead in the water.
In any case, it is claimed that the information comes from SEGA's European PR arm, and has the whiff of officialdom about it. HoD 2
in the series will be bundled together and will be compatible with the Wii Zapper, although the Wii Remote and Nunchuk will work if players don't own the peripheral.
Given the s**t storm that has blown around Manhunt 2
(with the Wii version having attracted special attention
), the release of a House of the Dead
game on the Wii could prove to be 'interesting' for Nintendo.
That said, Resident Evil 4
has hit the console without much of a to-do and Umbrella Chronicles
is on the way.
So, we contacted Nintendo for comment, and we were told, "Tis but rumour and speculation..."
So, we also contacted SEGA and were met with, "No comment".
All these failures to deny leave us with the feeling that we will see the immortal zombie destroyer on the Wii - and what better way to bond with your best mates.. erm family, eh?
You can read the supposed official line below to make your own decision.

“THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD franchise has been revamped for today’s gamer looking for fast-paced shooting action on the Wii” commented Gary Knight, Marketing Director of SEGA Europe. “Utilising the new Wii Zapper, the player can get the renowned light gun experience in their own home.”
THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD is famous for its heart-pounding pace and the great visual detail of the vast armies of unique enemies. Blasting through legions of grotesque zombies and mutated monsters, players eventually face-off against colossal boss creatures that will test the accuracy and skill of every Wii gamer.
THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD 2&3 RETURN will be available for the Wii home video game system from Nintendo in spring 2008.
