Electronic Arts has reportedly bought up the license to use the name of Formula 1 up-and-comer Lewis Hamilton in a game.
The license reportedly cost the company a cool £5-million. Not bad for a 22-year old. Kind of makes SPOnG wish we'd bothered to nearly win the Formula 1 Championship when we were that age...
The information originates from a report in tabloid scaremonger The Sun. While SPOnG's certainly not a fan of the Murdoch-owned rag, we have no reason to disbelieve it on this subject. We contacted EA for confirmation, but no comment was available at the time of press.
While EA may now own the license to Hamilton's name, however, Sony currently holds the official Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) license for F1 racing. So, exactly what sort of racing game will come out of the deal is unclear. What we are told is that the game will be for the PS3 and 360.
Still, EA certainly has a pedigree when it comes to racing games, as Burnout and Need for Speed fans will testify.
