Gears Of War Is Punters' Game Of The Year
The gaming public has spoken, and Gears of War has won the masses' choice as game of the year.

The award comes from the Golden Joysticks, which are voted for by the public, as opposed to the industry-decided games BAFTAs. Some 750,000 votes have been notched up this year.

Other notable wins include Wii Sports, which got this year's family gong, God of War 2, which highlighted the lack of exceptional PS3 releases to get best PlayStation game, and Lord of the Rings Online, which was voted best PC game of the year.

Yep i'm happy with that, GOTY 4 me was between Gears & Bioshock, but with Gears having a great online side it deserves all the praise it gets, Shame Zelda PH for the DS came out so late in the year, because that, 4 me is the best handheld game.

Sorry but all the corporate sponsored awards make this look like a poor joke with no punchline...has the immiediate effect of removing any class whatsoever.

Think I'd have edited out the advertising portion of this news on principle, no one voted for the sponsors, as well as it looks fairly ridiculous. The awards themselves might be obligated to fawn over them, but I don't see how media would be. FSM forbid this sort of thing ever looks normal and natural.
