Codemasters is the latest big-name games publisher to sign up to Valve's online games distribution service, Steam.

The company will kick things off with Clive Barker's Jericho (a review of which can be found here) Overlord and DiRT, all of which are available now.

Codies' director of business development, Peter Chan, opined, “With major new content in the portfolio, Codemasters continues to expand its publishing and distribution reach. As the industry’s leading online platform for digital delivery of PC entertainment, Steam is a natural addition to the suite of leading platforms Codemasters is targeting with its leading new and recent releases.”

Normally SPOnG would want to spit on someone for churning out such a bland corporo-quote, but Codemasters has every right to feel pleased with its move. The fact that sales of Valve's AAA release, The Orange Box, this week were dominated by the 360 at retail - despite the game traditionally being a PC shooter - demonstrate the sales power Steam has with its download service. The fact that Steam now boasts over 13 million users doesn't hurt, either.
