Sega announces a strange Sonic Advance twist
Sega of Japan has announced that it will be handing over the remaining development work for the Game Boy Advance version of Sonic the Hedgehog to a third party, namely Japanese developers DIMPS.

DIMPS is a newly formed development company, with many of its employees coming from fighting game demigod SNK. You will remember the embarrassment that was Sonic the Hedgehog Pocket Adventure, a game that was so badly bugged it needed to be internationally recalled.

Sega is one of DIMPS biggest investors, the others being Bandai and Sony Computer Entertainment, but this still seems a big risk to take.

Afterthought: Sega, Bandai and Sony all investing in a company staffed by former SNK employees. What’s all that about then? On DIMPS’ front page, the first thing the company does is takes the proverbial out of Nintendo guru Miyamoto.

One of Miyamoto’s most famous quotes is the one where he talks about wanting to make videogames resemble the gardens of Japan from when he was a child. “Making magical miniature gardens,” is Miyamoto’s personal mission statement.

On DIMPS front-page the company states, “A new era has begun. Boys who now spend boring time in a miniature garden will open the door of a new tradition. A new event which may create global excitement.”
