More details have oozed forth from Activision about just what we can expect from its recent acquisition of Bizarre Creations, and the publisher has more than just racing on its mind. In fact, it has hinted that, alongside a new racing property, Bizarre may be put to work on an action series.
Speaking in an interview, Activision's EVP of publishing, Robin Kaminsky, said:
"We believe in brands and franchises not individual titles, so we'll be working with Bizarre to develop a great concept and brand in racing, as well as working with their second team, which is very talented in the action genre. This team will most probably be working on a property that Activision already owns."
Time to start placing bets. Action franchises at Activision include
Call of Duty and various Marvel Comics licenses, while the publisher also deals in the likes of
Tony Hawks and
Guitar Hero. Bizarre's most recent work in the field of action is the upcoming (rather excellent-looking) SEGA release,
The Club.
Bizarre's expertise with smaller, downloadable games (read:
Geometry Wars) has not passed Activision by, either. "Obviously the first priority is the large-scaled titles, but [Bizarre Creations] have a very interesting process in terms of their ability to develop games for Xbox Live and we're interested in working with them on that", Kaminsky said.
Following Activision's
acquisition of Bizarre it was
confirmed that the developer will work on a racing title, but Microsoft
retains the rights for the fan-favourite
Project Gotham series.
