Gears of War Man Takes On Thundercats

Is Hollywood going to drain all our talent?

If you needed any more proof that gaming and cinema are drawing ever-closer, Gears of War and Unreal Tournament III art director Jerry O'Flaherty has it. The Epic man has been tapped to direct Warner Bros.' upcoming CGI movie of Thundercats.

"It feels like a natural thing for me to step into", O'Flaherty said. "Games have come so far now. The last four years of my life have been about bringing the energy of filmmaking into the videogame experience."

The Thundercats movie will expand upon the origin of the lycra-clad felines, focussing in on Lion-O coming of age. The mere mention of Thundercats brings out wistful sighs in certain SPOnG staffers, while others have actually seen episodes in recent years and now feel cheated of fond childhood memories. In any case, if no game comes out of the film SPOnG will eat its PS3.

While SPOnG's confident that Thundercats is in fine hands, what we don't want to see is Hollywood starting to snatch up all the games industry's talent with the promise of big cash, red carpets and knickerless women.

After Transformers I have a bit more faith in it being good. Its so easy to get it wrong though but I'll keep me fingers crossed. CG is a good way to go, so ong as its not dumbed down too much. The action has got to be convincing.

Thundercats.....ahh..the memories of a great series flood back to me.

meh, Thundercats was teh suck. Its clone (Silverhawks?) was worse.

The COOLEST thing on the whole series was Mumm-Ra's voice, although that WAS pretty damn cool.

I didn't like Voltron or He-Man either. I was a huge Battle of the Planets (Science Ninja Gatchaman redone for US) fan and Voltron was pretty damn derivative, if you asked me. Don't get me started on Power Rangers...

Transformers lost me in the first (animated) movie. THEY KILLED JAZZ. You bastards. Wasn't the whole "Kill Scatman Carruthers" thing done in The Shining already? Come on people, he was the coolest Autobot ever.
