Nintendo Dishes Out Cars, Holidays And Uni Fees
Now, this is genius: you know all of that money that Nintendo has been piling up from selling more DSs and Wiis than it can actually make? Well, it's decided to put some of it to good use, in a genuinely clever promotion offering Britain's Brainiest Family the chance to win their children’s college or university fees.

From the small print on Nintendo's website, the top prize in the Britain's Brainiest Family promotion - running October through to November - is detailed as:

“[A] prize... for up to the value of £10,000 per child for a maximum of 4 children. The total value of the potential prize is £40,000 which will go towards the costs necessary to participate in higher education. The prize is non transferable and includes contributions to fees, textbooks, travel, accommodation, costs necessary to participate in higher education at a university or educational institute and any other expense that can be proven to be associated with the education of the winning young adult.”

Big Brain Academy compo entrants can also win one of seven Thomas Cook holidays and be entered into a prize draw to win a big old Chrysler Grand Voyager Executive XS.

The Britain's Brainiest Family competition will be supported around the country with the Big Brain Academy Tour at the following ten locations, where the brainiest families will battle it out to compete in the final on Sunday 4th November in London town. Here's where you can find it:

Glasgow Braehead Centre - Saturday 13th October
Gateshead MetroCentre - Sunday 14th October
Sheffield Meadowhall - Saturday 20th October
Manchester Trafford Centre - Sunday 21st October
Birmingham Bullring - Monday 22nd October
London Brent Cross - Tuesday 23rd October
Milton Keynes Midsummer Place - Wednesday 24th October
Southampton WestQuay - Thursday 25th October
Bristol the Mall Galleries - Saturday 27th October
Kent Bluewater - Sunday 28th October

Surely "Britain's Brainiest Family" are already quite well paid and able to fund their kids' educations themselves. Why not give the prize to "Britain's Thickest Family" so they can use it to buy beer 'n' fags.

Hmmm. Probably answered my own question there.

I think your quote is quite ignorant really, i mean just because someone is loaded doesnt make them clever and someone living on the poverty line isnt immediatly thick!, some of the greastest minds im sure have come from a poor upbringing, in fact my brother in law, came from a very poor background, involved with drugs and crime at a young age and was treated very bad as a child, he now is a professor of computer science and works 6 months a year in San Fransico and the other 6 in London... me thinks you wouldnt win the copetition!

good point but there is an element of sarcasim and obvious sterotyping that irr has used that is clearly meant to be there.

I was considering pointing that out and also making a few other generally irritating remarks (didn't earn this nickname for nothing) but out of respect (and a lack of backbone) I didn't!

I'm with Haritori. Smart or talented doesn't necessarily equal rich and loaded. A lot of smart people are poor or don't have the means to go to university. That doesn't make them failures though, as a lot of famous people you know managed to succeed against the odds.

Fairplay to Nintendo for running this competition, in a U.K with a population, that sometimes think its cool to know nothing and be a nobody robot fool.

Knowledge is power, always has been and always will be, so learn all you can in life.
