Tokyo Extreme Racer PlayStation 2 first look

More odd car madness 'round the streets of Tokyo

Renowned publisher of Tokyo racing games Ubi Soft will be bringing an update of Tokyo Highway Challenge to the PlayStation 2.

The new game is called Tokyo Extreme Racer and the lovely girls at Ubi Soft have been nice enough to send us the first batch of available screens.

As you will know, racing games are all about feel and handling and Ubi Soft assures us that Tokyo Extreme Racer will play delightfully.

That brings us onto the cars. How Ubi Soft can get away with chopping the front of a Mitsubishi FTO off and sticking it onto the back of a Toyota Supra and calling the new ‘Frankencar’ a “Super” is a mystery. Still, don’t let this legal niggle put you off. The team has actually managed to make some handsome cross-breeds.

One of the game’s key points is the fact that you can modify the cars, to increase performance and looks. As well as being able to fit 120 different parts to your machine, you get to drive along 100 miles of true to life motorway.

The bad news is that you will have to wait until this summer to get your mitts on a copy, but we will keep you posted with details as they emerge.
