Retailer praises casual games

GAME Credits Nintendo With Female Gamer Spike
GAME, the UK's largest specialist gaming retailer, has credited Nintendo with an increase in the number of female customers walking through its doors.

Speaking to industry magazine MCV, GAME CEO, Lisa Morgan, said:

“The products that are out there at the moment are really increasing our reach. We saw 15 per cent more females dropping into our stores for the first half of this year and 30 per cent more than we had in 2005. Unquestionably the Nintendo DS and the likes of Nintendogs and Brain Training are bringing more girls and more older customers in-store.

“More recently we’ve had Nintendo Wii which is attracting all sorts of demographics, young and old.”

Microsoft might like to claim some of the glory, having made a push towards female gamers with the likes of Viva Pinata and Xbox Live titles and having publicly stated that it has its eye on that wider market. With the death of the Core console (which is priced alongside the Wii) looking likely, however, it seems Microsoft might be giving up the ghost on that demographic.

What absolute CRAP! Viva Pinata first aimed at kids however grown ups can play them too I know I have and it was ok.

Girl gamers will play whatever guys play as well look at the PMS clan the worlds largest girl gaming clan that play all sorts of games like HALO, Gears of war etc.

Sure the DS might have or the Wii has made more female gamers interested but Microsoft deserve credit as well considering many females I know are playing HALO 3.

GAME are not saying that Nintendo have brought all women gamers into the hobby, they're saying there's been a marked increase because of Nintendo's efforts; that slight difference in interpretation, on your part, makes a nonsense of most of your statement.

In other news, all girls fly fighter jets and play baseball. It's true because I know of two or three examples that do! Also all boys sew, knit and work as receptionists, similar sample size applies.

The article is saying that the amount of females buying stuff from GAME has increased during the same period that the DS and Wii have come to prominence. It's not saying that Nintendo alone are responsible, but they have certainly had a much bigger say than Microsoft or Sony.

Yes, girls do play games like Halo and Gears Of War. The vast majority of them do not.

If I caught any girlfriend of mine* playing Gears of War, I'd smack her down, f**k her with the joystick** and them send her back to the kitchen***, where she belongs.

* If I'd ever had a girldfriend.

** If people still used joysticks

*** If I didn't live in a dim and rather smelly bedsit, where the 360**** is IN the kitchen

**** If I had a 360
