Halo 3 Doubles Xbox 360 Hardware Sales

£17 million pushed through retailer tills

Hail to the Chief!
The release of Halo 3 gave Xbox 360 hardware sales a huge spike, doubling the previous week's figures, according to stats aggregator Chart-Track.

The organisation, however, will not release exact figures as to exactly how 360s were sold.

Also revealed was the fact that Halo 3 put £17 million through retailers' tills through software sales alone between its Wednesday launch at 12:01am and midnight on Saturday. The game made up 68% of all software sold for the 360, giving the platform its best ever software sales week.

The impressive hardware sales boost managed to put 360 sales above those of the Wii for the first time in 26 weeks. A Chart-Track representative confirmed to SPOnG that the home console sales rankings ran: Xbox 360, Wii then PS3. The DS Lite still outsold all three, however.

The game also jumped to Charts glory, storming the Number 1 spot and becoming the second best selling UK title ever during a first week of sale.

It also emerged today that Halo 3 has topped the Japanese software Charts, a surprising fact given the 360's sluggish performance in the territory.

We actually cite where our news come from, yes. It's an old-fashioned habit. You will also notice that MCV takes our news leads on occasion . But that, of course, would entail looking.

As it would have done had you read the fact that we went to Chart Track direct and were hence able to quote directly from our source there.

As and when we do, we will cite it as a source.

Always appreciate a constructive and incisive criticism.

I was just saying in general, I go over to MCV and saw well like much of the stuff on here there first and then see it appear here later.

When I mentioned N4G its just that there is sooo much news on there I have been more active on this site lately since the company here (where the IT manager is also called Tim lol) have blocked many sites including N4G.

the great thing about news is everywhere reports the same thing... because its news! which just leaves you the consumer the lovely option of choosing where you prefer to get said news, as in general you wont miss out on anything.

i like getting my news from spong for a variety of reasons. i dont like getting it from mvc for a variety of reason. so i personally dont care who 'broke' the story as long as spong keeps me informed. keep up the good work guys!

As ever, the usual brown envelope containing Euros (it was Euros this time?) will be under the third larch in the west end of the park.

;-)

Cheers

Yep i like coming to spong first rather than other places, theres a nice sense of community and the forums generally have the same voices, also the SPOnG team also get involved and actually reply to you, unlike some other places.

As for the first comment, if you were a little more regualr here and actually looked about you would see that spong has news thats old, news thats current and news thats exclusive, but as Alex says, news is the same everywhere becasue its news.

I mean did you read The Sun when Princess Diana died , and Thought OMG the Mirror Stole that from The Sun? or watched Sky News when The Twin Towers collapsed and thjen turned over the BBC News and thought they have taken that from Murdoch?
