NiGHTS – Latest Screens And Divided Opinions Inside

Rose-tinted rubbish or genuine SEGA classic updated for Wii?

Posted by Staff
Opinion in the SPOnG office is already divided on SEGA’s forthcoming update of ‘classic’ NiGHTS for Wii, which we’ve just received the latest bunch of art and screens on.

Svend is already coo-ing favourable things about the game, having been lucky enough to get a little bit of hands-on time with NiGHTS at TGS last month.

“I’m glad to report that it is a perfectly executed update of one of the greatest SEGA games of all time,” he informed us. “It’s immediately up there with my most-wanted Wii games for early 2008,” he added.

Adam is not so convinced by NiGHTS, though admittedly has yet to play the Wii version and was never particularly a fan of the original in the first place, commenting, “It’s a fanboy title, it was over-rated on the Saturn back in the day and it will be over-rated by the SEGA fanboy hardcore this time around. And it won’t sell. It’s a folly.”

Well, we’ll see when Nights: Journey Into Dreams releases on Wii early next year. Head over to the game page for more new screens.

I agree with both, as svend is a sega fanboy. ;)
I remember enjoying the original even though I had a terrible time trying to play it. If i recall the running around on the ground bits where especially bad. It was style over substance. I am hoping years of 3D development practice means it will be at least a passable game to play so that i can console myself for buying it simply to marvel at the shiny colors.

I don't necessarily agree with the idea that it won't sell however as it's bright art could easily be marketed to the younger crowd. I doubt it will be though.

Nights was awesome, i dont remember the walking parts being to annoying?, but i loved the music the characters the style & the way it play'd, but that was about 10 years ago!?..(maybe more) so it'll be intresting to see where they go with this, but i dont have much confidence in SEGA as a developer anymore, they have produced some s**t rescently....need i mention Sonic on the 360!...ohh dear.

Nights was a good game full stop, all this 'fanboy' sh!t is just that... sh!t...
How Adam can comment on a Wii version he has yet to experience is anyones guess....although I'm guessing that he isn't alone.

And as for the original sucking? what a load of miss guided cr@p. You obviously played it and did'nt 'Get it' I admit, at first I was wondering what all the fuss was about, that was until I linked one of the maps a few times...and it had me hooked, awesome.

It was a beautiful piece of software for the time, and it perfectly suited its unique analoge controller.I don't understand people that have a digg at something just so they can be different....

And yes, I know about opinions before you go down that route, so I guess this is my opinion.
