EA Dishes Dead Space Details
Electronic Arts has made its official announcement for upcoming survival-horror title Dead Space, dishing up a few scant details on the upcoming PS3/Xbox 360 space fest.

Not a vast amount is revealed, but we're told that the game will be third-person and we've been also been given the official spiel on the plot. Without further ado, here's what EA has to tell us:

“Set in the cold blackness of deep space, the atmosphere is soaked with a feeling of tension, dread and sheer terror. In Dead Space, players step into the role of engineer Isaac Clarke – an ordinary man on a seemingly routine mission to fix the communications systems aboard a deep space mining ship. It is not long before Isaac awakes to a living nightmare when he learns that the ship’s crew has been ravaged by a vicious alien infestation. He must fight through the dead silence and darkness of deep space to stay alive.”

Naturally, we're chilled.

Executive Producer Glen Schofield added, “This team has worked on some tremendous properties but we have always wanted to work on something that was darker and creepier. We are all such huge fans of the horror and sci-fi genres; we wanted to create the most terrifying game we could, and keep the player on the edge of his seat the entire time.”

A trawl of the official Dead Space website reveals a nicely designed, flash-based experience containing a nearly empty forum, newsletter sign up and... not a whole lot else. You can see for yourself here.

EA hasn't, it must be said, waylaid our fears spawning from the third-party assertion that fans of Event Horizon will love Dead Space. We might as well have been told, “If you love turgid, derivative and poorly executed second rate sci-fi horror, you'll love this.”

Still, we're giving EA the benefit of the doubt for now.
