The lid has been blown off EA's first ever entry into the survival horror genre. The game will take the form of a piece of sci-fi nastiness going by the name of
Dead Space.
The revealation comes from the cover of next month's
Game Informer (from which the image here is taken). As you might expect, not a lot is given away. What sounds like official EA bumf reads, "In the far reachers of space, humanity brings light to a forgotten alien scourge. Can one man cut through the darkness?" The cover also boasts that the game was made by a "renegade team". Scary stuff.
Unfortunately, we're told that (as well as straight-up horror aficionados) fans of
Event Horizon will love this. Here at SPOnG, we are not big fans of
Event Horizon. To put it in a printable fashion, it would have been better if it were a better film. Unfortunately, it was not. It was in fact an enormous, towering piece of nonsense that had all the hallmarks of a Twilight Zone episode that had been stretched until it screamed and its internal organs fled from its own rear.
But that's just our opinion - and who is to say that an unspeakably bad film won't make for a great game - after all many unspeakably bad games have been based on good films.
Keep your eye on SPOnG for more on
Dead Space as we get it.
