Kwari is the name of both the name of a new FPS game and the company publishing it which, so it boldly claims, is going to “change the PC gaming landscape forever.”
It (the game, not the company) will be free to download online and will use a unique free-to-play/pay-to-play model whereby Kwari (the company not the game) sells the player ammunition in place of flat rate charges or monthly subscriptions.
Kwari (the game... you get the idea) is built around the winning concept of money changing hands at a tremendously fast and constantly changing rate while you play, “developed using some of the most advanced technology available to ensure total financial infallibility fused with benchmark playability.”
Kwari’s press bumpf also informs us that, “Anonymity becomes necessary as well as psychologically appealing to a point where Kwari is virtually diametrically opposite to the core values of social networking.”
“Money changes everything”, said Eddie Gill, founder and creator of Kwari. “I wanted to create something that had more of a buzz than a traditional FPS. The concept of playing for money is not a new one. However, these games tend to be an existing multi-player game with a cash prize tagged on the end, much like clan tournaments, which means only a minority walk away with cash winnings – and usually a small amount at that.”
Players enter skill-ranked matches with small stakes ranging from a cent (err, half a pence) to a dollar (50 of your English pence) with players being awarded money each time they hit an opponent. Massive jackpot prizes will also be made available, with the pot funded each time any player takes self-inflicted damage (i.e. by falling or hitting a hazard and so on).
“This is an inevitable evolution for online gaming,” commented Al King, Global Marketing Director for Kwari (and previous Marketing Director of Electronic Arts). “Like most skill-based or competitive games, once played at a professional level or where money is involved, it’s unappealing to return to an amateur status.”
