SCEA has today announced that a limited edition Ceramic White PlayStation 2 Singstar Pop bundle is coming out this November, priced at a very reasonable $149.99 (£75) including the PS2 console, Singstar Pop game and two USB microphones.
"With our expansive library of titles for PlayStation, led by social gaming experiences such as SingStar, and Buzz!, we have an incredible offering for first-time gaming families," said Jack Tretton, SCEA president and CEO.
There are already 44 million PS2’s in North America, though SCEA clearly believes that there are still many more homes and trailers that it can get the PS2 into this coming Christmas holiday season.
SPOnG spoke with SCEE this morning, with a rep informing us that there are currently no plans to bring the Singstar Pop bundle over to Europe.
There are currently 117 million PS2s worldwide, with Sony estimating sales increasing to 127 million by March 2008.
Which is a lot.

Cool! Only two years after it launched in Japan as well. Console manufacturers are getting better at this.

PS1 lasted about four years after PS2 came out, why shouldn't PS2 last that long after PS3 came out.
Just because Microsoft and Nintendo dropped their last-gen offerings like someone else's cold s**t, doesn't mean Sony should.

Why?? Nintendo has come out with a system that's pretty much on par with it and that seems to be selling like hot cakes? Good on Sony for fighting Wii at this level - PS3/360 vs Wii...has the world gone f**king insane???! It's PS2 vs Wii and you'll find that Wii is getting FLOGGED.

If Sony had made the PS3 with no Blu-ray @ 200 quid with an good range of launch title everyone (including me) would of gone out & got it day one, & by now the PS2 wouldn't be selling anywhere near the consoles or games it is, dont be fooled into think Sony are doing the loyal thing, they are only covering there arse because the PS3 isn't selling so great & even if you own one there's f**k all to buy or play on the thing.

Sure, there are those who won't upgrade to PS3, but they are few. They have to decide which they want to sell. I said this would happen though. Withn 3 360 skus, and two PS3 skus and one for Wii, who on earth is gonna buy a PS2 brand new? Game etc have enough traded in PS2s coming out of their ears, for less, let alone ebay.
