Rumour: NiGHTS on Wii Slipping to 2008

Game apparently only 55% complete right now

Posted by Staff
SEGA’s next must-have game, NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams for Wii will be delayed until Q1 2007, according to fansite NightsIntoDreams.com, with Sonic Team claiming that the game was about 55% complete at Leipzig last week.

NightsIntoDreams.com's Leipzig source claims:

“As for our source of the delay, it’s as high up as it gets. You see, the German magazines said Christmas 2007 was the release date as did Daniel our demo-guy. When we got Nintendo’s publishing dates, it was listed as November. We contacted SEGA this morning and spoke with SEGA’s Product and PR Manager and he told us that it’s been officially pushed to Q1 2008. That’s literally “this morning’s news”, and it’s coming from the most credible source it can come from.”

“No comment,” a SEGA UK rep informed SPOnG when we approached them for confirmation on this today.

If NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams really is only 55% finished at this point, SPOnG sincerely hopes that SEGA does delay release to early 2008. We'd rather the game was spot on and a bit late, than on time and a massive disappointment.

Never fear anyway, as there is plenty more on the way for Wii to keep you more than adequately entertained all the way through to Easter 2008 - as you can see from Nintendo's recent release list.

More on the highly probable delay of NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams as we get it.

I'm sorry, where on that list can I find something to keep me entertained? You must mean Metroid and Mario, as I'm not sure how many are waiting for the likes of Barbie Island Princess, Carnival Games or Pimp My Ride (feel free to substitute from any title on the list). Or maybe it's gimped versions of Tony Hawk or Need for Speed Pro street that I should be hot for?

Oh. but judging by the list you were so kind to link through to (thanks btw) I see that there isn't a delay for NiGHTS after all - phew! I was starting to get a bit cranky there...please disregard post.

Judging by the fact this news article exists, there's always the possibility that list that was linked to has marked NiGHTS down either incorrectly, or out of date.

In any case, any delay is welcomed by me. I know I keep going on about 'hardcore games on the Wii' but this is one case I'm going to make an exception. Sonic Team have been sucking the melon lately with their products (this is coming from a hardcore Sonic fan), and it's going to take a lot to show that the studio can take their time with a project instead of whack out a new game every year or two regardless of faults.

NiGHTS, for many, is more than just a hotly anticipated game. If Journey of Dreams turns out to be anything less than absolutely perfect, you're going to see a riot even the likes of Nintendo fanboys have never seen before.

Agreed. I'm also 99% sure it's not going to see the light of day till March next year.

I was actually being facetious - I'm well aware the list was out of date. The very least SPOnG could have done was checked it's validity before trying to milk exposures from it's viewers...

As far as NiGHTS goes, I was one of the biggest fans of it on the DC. Unfortunately, I hate the Wii and everything it stands for (legitimate reasons that I've gone on about enough right here on these forums) and I can almost asure you that this title will be weak at best. What s**ts me is that consumers continue to blindly buy into these franchises in the face of so much contrary evidence...

How about a NiGHTS on 360 or PS3? Now I'm starting to tingle...

im sure you mean on the saturn, rather than the dreamcast. being such a fan.

and one of the reasons people are so excited by it, is because of the control scheme "should" add so much to the game. which you wouldnt get so much on the ps3, or at all on the 360.

btw, ive never played nights. just saying what others seem to think.

I'm with you on this point. Wii Sports and Wii Play - until very recently they were about the only games I saw people playing and genuinely enjoying. Ok, so now it looks like Mario Party and Brain Academy have found some favour, and I'm sure Wii Fit will do the same - but it still a pretty shallow pool and I don't see that changing any time soon

As for third-party comers, with the exception of EA's Tiger Woods (a golf game - do I spot a pattern?), every other effort seems to be finding little interest.

I understood your approach - it was just misguided somewhat. You're saying an entire list is out of date based on one third party game (out of Nintendo's control) being pushed back.

So you er, think NiGHTS is going to be crap simply because it's on the Wii? It's a theory, for sure.

What makes you think a game is going to be better if it's on a more powerful console? Look at Sonic on the XBOX 360 and the PS3.
