FIFA 08 To Feature 10-Player On-line Option

Ultimate aim to get a full 11-on-11 on-line gameplay experience

EA continues to innovate with FIFA 08, revealing today that the PS3 and 360 versions of the game, set for release next month, will feature a brand new on-line mode for 10 players to play.

The impressive new FIFA 08 feature is called ‘Be A Pro: Online Team', and will be available as a free download six to eight weeks after the game’s late September release.

Basically it allows you to form a team with up to five friends, potentially on different consoles. Taking control of their own individual players on the team, supported by AI team mates, you can play against another team with up to five on-line rivals. Alternatively, on-line users can select to play with free roaming "strangers", and teams can have a combination of friends and strangers.

"At EA Sports our dream is to create a full 11 versus 11 on-line gameplay experience in which each user will have a set position during the match and train specifically for that position," said Joe Booth, producer of FIFA 08.

"Be A Pro is the first step in this direction, and now, with the ability to deliver five versus five on-line gameplay as free downloadable content, we are moving even closer towards the realisation of this dream."

FIFA 08 also includes the award-winning Interactive Leagues, where you represent your club on-line against your rivals throughout the season in the F.A. Premier League, Bundesliga, French League or Mexican 1st Division and features weekly in-game pod casts by the development team, and Online Leagues, where you create and organize your own multiplayer Friends Leagues and tournaments.

Oh EA, can you hear that sound? Kerching! You've definitely got a sale from me next month. This is the way to go with online play. My 360 may soon go into meltdown, as Fifa online is insanely addictive.

Just as Konami jump back onto Wii, and Fifa moves the goal posts of progress again. Great stuff for all footy fans.

Come on Konami, you gotta raise your game.
