Activision has confirmed that when the multiplayer beta for
Call of Duty 4 hits later this month it will only actually hit North America.
SPOnG spoke to Activision and was told simply, "I can confirm it's U.S. only." No explanation is available as yet, although one is expected shortly.
There are no technical reasons why the beta could not be made available in the U.K. and Europe, as
Halo 3 demonstrated. The restrictions are more than likely due to logistical reasons relating to Activision's infrastructure for either distributing the software or gathering results.
SPOnG was enamoured with
Call of Duty 4 when we came across it at
Activision's preview day last month and we're more than a little disappointed that we won't be able jump into the beta. Whatever the reason is, had better be good, or... something bad.
