SEGA's vice president of marketing in the U.S., Scott Steinberg, has pulled a U-turn with regards to the Wii.
Speaking in an interview he said “I’m not sure what you’re talking about. Did I say that?” with regards to a few choice comments of his
giving the Wii two good years. Don't worry, he's not a big fat liar, his tongue was firmly in cheek.
That doesn't mean, however, that Steinberg hasn't backtracked on his earlier comments. Asked about who SEGA expects to win the platform war, he said:
“Are we placing bets [on one particular platform]? No one can tell right now who’ll ‘win.’ It’s still too early. All three consoles have got the right materials for success. That alchemy is there across all three different platforms. I guess that’s being defined a bit differently with Nintendo, but they definitely have their own consumer-oriented track, which we think is great. So I think from a third-party publisher’s standpoint it’s not wise to make bets right now that don’t include all three consoles.”
The Wii is still in the running as far as SEGA's concerned, it would seem. It looks to SPOnG like someone got an ass-kicking by PR...
