Philips amBX Signs Up More Developers
As the Develop conference gets under way in Brighton this week, Philips sends word that it has signed up six new developer license agreements to its popular amBX ‘ambient gaming’ platform - with Gearbox Software, Zombie, Riot Games, Brain in a Jar, Invictus Games and Instinct Technology all jumping on the amBX ambient gaming bus.

amBX, if you have not yet heard of it, “revolutionises the gameplay experience by extending the gaming world out of the screen and into the real world”. At least, that’s what Philips inform us that it does.

In practise, amBX equips game developers with a tool box to use light, colour, sound and air flow through enabled devices such as LED colour-controlled lighting, rumble mats and peripherals and desktop fans.

“amBX is a very cool and innovative technology that allows your games to stand out in a very crowded marketplace,” commented John E. Williamson, President of Zombie.

“With our move to latest generation technology in the form of our soon to be announced Xbox 360 and PC racing game, Philips amBX is the perfect partner for enhancing the gaming experience on offer from our studio,” commented Carl Dalton, Creative Director at Cheshire-based Brain in a Jar..

The above-named developers join the growing list of companies supporting amBX-enabled games and peripherals, including Codemasters, THQ, Introversion, Kuju, Revolution, Sumo Digital, Rivers Run Red, Philips Peripherals & Accessories and SpectraVideo.

Expect more announcements from Philips on amBX in the coming days from Develop.

SPOnG should also be getting a full hands on demonstration of the latest games supporting this intriguing technology, so we should be able to let you know if it actually works or is a mere gimmick in the very near future.

i think this is very far from a gimmick and i also beleive this is what is needed for a more immersive game, if only this stuff could be a little cheaper.
