Atari has just sent word that
Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 will make use of the recently announced Wii online play. Additionally, the PS2 version will feature what Atari is calling a 'Disc Fusion System'.
Budokai Tenkaichi 3 will join a short list of titles that feature online play for the Wii and includes
FIFA '08 and
Battalion Wars II. Currently only
Mario Strikers takes advantage of the function.
Traditionally, publishers have shied away from featuring online play in beta-'em-ups due to fears that network speeds aren't high enough to handle the lightening fast timing required to pull off moves. Recently Namco Bandai bucked the trend by announcing that
Soul Calibur IV for the 360 and PS3 will
allow players to duke it out online. With regards to the PS2 version of
Budokai Tenkaichi 3, Atari says, “The exclusive ‘Disc Fusion System’ featured in the PlayStation 2 version of
Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 lets players insert either
Budokai Tenkaichi 1 or
Budokai Tenkaichi 2 into the console to unlock brand new gameplay modes. Each game in the series will provide a different and exciting new gameplay mode.”
