Konami has announced that the
Silent Hill franchise is set to make its first next-gen appearance in the provisionally (and creatively) named
Silent Hill V.
Konami tells us:
“The game follows Alex Shepherd, a war veteran returning home from an overseas tour of duty. Alex has taken compassionate leave following the news that his younger brother, Joshua, has gone missing. Initial investigations lead Alex to the small, insular community of Shepherd’s Glen, before he finds himself in the mist-shrouded and seemingly empty streets of Silent Hill…"
We all know what that means. SPOnG thinks its safe to say that the town's denizens aren't all just sleeping off a big booze up from the night before.
As you might expect, Konami says it plans to utilise the PS3 and 360's high definition capacities to ramp up the sense of impending doom. Normally we'd take such an assertion with a healthy dose of 'meh', but since the
Silent Hill franchise is built on foundations of eerie atmosphere and is one of the few games to leave us shuddering (not in the nice way) on our sofas, SPOnG's intrigued to see what Konami has to offer.
Also promised is “an enhanced combat system” and “enhanced” (buy an adjective, guys) puzzles.
Silent Hill fans will also be pleased to know that Akira Yamaoka is returning to compose the game's soundtrack.
Chiming in with his ha'penny's-worth, Brian Christian, VP of product development at Konami said, “
Silent Hill V is an international, cross-cultural production, with leading development talent from around the globe collaborating to raise the bar even higher for this incredible series. With gritty graphics and sound combining to create a haunting atmosphere and all-new visceral gameplay elements, Silent Hill V shows the level to which next-generation hardware can enhance the player’s overall gaming experience.” Cheers, Bri.
