On Show First Killzone 2 In-Game Image
The first in-game sight of Sony's Killzone 2 has made its way to the Internet via a post on the USA Today site.

According to the brief mention, the game - which Sony hopes will be a 'hardware mover' for the PlayStation 3 - is "rated Mature for 17 and older". Aside from the single shot there is little more information bar one quote from Sony senior PR rep, Ron Eagle, who says "The Helghast are able to harness the raw power of the weather against you. It makes for some unique game play."

Not only is Killzone 2 touted as being able to move hardware - its PlayStation Network play is also aimed at increasing the platform - and Sony's - online market share when it is released in 2008.

Don't forget to check out our dedicated Killzone 2 page right here.

You're being ironic, yeah?

The screen grab is pretty meaningless. Sure the Helgast dude is detailed, but there's only one of him and the scene is pretty damn bland - doesn't even appear to be any use of vertex or bump maps on the walls

Oh, and that shadow maps looks to be PS2 rez (and the light casting that shadow seems to be coming from right in front of the dude).

I'm not gonna feel one way or another about this game until I've played it or seen some good reviews. After being sucked into the 1st one by the design & look, (all bark & no bite) I'm a bit wary of guerilla, & from the looks of this shot it seems they've got the grey palette out again. But i gotta say i love the look of those Helgast guards, smart.

Yeah, the shadow is the most noticable thing - it looks old-fasioned/pixellated.

It needs a wider range of detail/effects (including colours, types of textures), but it's a start.

Does any one know the provenance of this image?

Okay, we know it just now turned up on the USA Today website, but does anyone know where USA Today got it?

Is it really a grab from the latest build, or could it be a year-old test render that some Sony hater leaked to take the shine of Sony's E3 announcements?

From the chatter on the interweb flora, it was taken last saturday and its a pre-alpha build. The guys over at the offical guerrilla forums have confirmed its real and they created it, but USA Today published it early. Its from a one level demo that will be shown after the MS conference tomorrow.

Just read that it *is* in game, but the image actually shows a poster from within the game - so the image is a texture. Apparently, if you crank up the brightness on the image, you can see the wall surrounding the poster.
