Konami's faith in the PS3 seems to be dwindling, and the company may break the exclusivity of
Metal Gear Solid 4 to the console.
Speaking to news agency Reuters Kazumi Kitaue, the head of Konami's North American and European operations, said, "Since
Metal Gear Solid was born for the PlayStation, we would like to keep it a PlayStation game. But we might have to take some steps."
If Konami does make the move of taking
MGS4 to other platforms, it will be to recoup some of the game's high next-gen development costs.
Kitaue's comment harks back to
rumours flying around last month that
MGS4 was 360-bound, and that Konami was also in talks with Nintendo to bring the series to the Wii.
Kitaue was also less than enthused by Sony's
US price cut of the PS3, saying, "I wonder if Sony can win back user support by the price cut of just $100 (£49.50)... I don't expect a substantial impact ... With $500 (£248), you can buy a personal computer."
True, but since people are gagging to buy iPhones for $599 (£297), that kind of analysis really doesn't hold that much water.
While Konami's top people maybe lukewarm regarding the PS3 price cut, it appears from
Amazon's current best seller list for videogaming, that U.S. consumers are running hot. The list shows the (older) 60Gb PS3 riding high at the number 1 position.
Whether this is price-cut related, or related to the fact that the 60Gb units in the U.S. still contain the
Emotion Engine chip can only be speculated on - and no one comments on speculation.
